About
Héloïse Carlean Jones

Praised for her “clarity and mastery of sound” (Reading Eagle), Héloïse Carlean Jones is a French/South African harpist, currently member of the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine in Paris.

Golden Medal winner in the Fourth Manhattan Competition, she has performed around the world, from Carnegie Hall to the Wiener Konzerthaus. She has been featured in solo and chamber music recitals in the Aspen, Tanglewood, Paris Young Talents, Ohrid International Festival, American Harp Society, Vista Concerts, Chamber Music at Sterling, Occitanie International Harp Festival and Dutch Harp Festival.

As an orchestral player she has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Paris Orchestra, the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.

In June 2020 Héloïse won the audition for the Associate Principal and Second Harp Position in the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine in Paris. She made her concerto debut with them in 2022, performing Danse Sacrée et Danse Profane by Debussy at the Val-de-Grâce in Paris. In June 2023 she made her German debut playing Nino Rota’s Harp Concerto with the Giessen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Héloïse has performed many premieres as a soloist and member of the Curtis 20/21 Ensemble and New Music New Haven. She also performed with the Yale Baroque Opera Project and the Yale Collegium Musicum as a continuo player on the arpa doppia.

With a repertoire spanning five centuries, Héloïse is equally at home with cutting-edge new music as with the works of the great baroque masters. She shares her passion for music and its history with her audience through thoughtful programming and direct audience engagement.

Performing for the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Live Music Now since 2021, Héloïse brings live music to places it is rarely heard such as hospitals, nursing homes and schools in France and Germany. During her studies in Philadelphia, she played music in Jefferson Hospital‘s neonatal ward for infants born with addictions, and participated in a composition workshop with inmates at Graterford Prison through Songs in the Key of Free.

Héloïse holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Harp Performance and a Diploma in Historical Performance Practice from the Curtis Institute of Music where she held the L. Daniel Dannenbaum Fellowship. She pursued a Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music where she was awarded the Stephen Hendel Fellowship. In 2023 she was awarded an Artist Diploma (Konzertexamen) from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt.
